Annamari Eskola:
Cycle
Annamari Eskola's ikebana art exhibition will be on display at Malmitalo gallery from November 6 to November 29, 2025. You are warmly invited to the opening reception on Wednesday, November 5, from 5 to 7 PM!
The life cycle of plants, twisting forms and recycling of materials are the themes of Annamari Eskola's installations. November is the darkest time in the cycle of the year, but life is present in dead plants on many levels.
Annamari Eskola has studied ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement according to the teachings of the Sogetsu school, since 2012. The modern Sogetsu style has taken influences from Western art and combines plants with other elements. Eskola uses plant materials from her home region of Northeastern Helsinki in her art. They utilize garden waste and persecuted alien species such as giant buckthorn and Japanese buckthorn. Wasteland finds and living flowers are combined into sculptures that return to circulation as materials after the exhibition ends.
